Answer: Reproduction is very important for the organisms. The organisms reproduce to produce young ones like them. It helps to carry on their generation. If reproduction does not take place, no living being will survive on the earth. First Had the process of reproduction not been there then all the plants and animals would have become extinct, Secondly special characters of an organism are carried over to its next generation through reproduction only.

Q2. Describe the process of fertilization in human beings.

Answer: In the process of fertilisation, sperms come in contact with an ova (egg). One of the sperms may fuse with the egg. The nuclei of the sperm and the egg fuse to form a single nucleus resulting in the formation of a fertilised egg called zygote. In human being, the fertilisation takes place inside the female body, known as internal fertilisation.

Answer: Asexual Reproduction:

a) It is a mode of reproduction that does not entails the union of sex cells or gametes.

b) There are different types of asexual reproduction, they are binary fission, budding vegetative propagation, spore formation, fragmentation. There is no gamete formation in this type of reproduction. Animals like Hydra, Amoeba undergo asexual mode of reproduction.

Two types of Asexual reproduction are:

1) Budding: It is a type of asexual reproduction in which a new organism develops from an outgrowth or bud due to cell division at one particular site. These buds develop into tiny individuals and when fully they mature and detach from the parets body and become a new independent individual. Example: Hydra.
2) Binary Fission: In this type of asexual reproduction the body of the organism mainly unicellular organism divides into two. Each of the two daughter cells are alike. Example: Amoeba.

Q7. In which female reproductive organ does the embryo get embedded?

Answer: The embryo gets embedded in the wall of the uterus (of the female) for further development.

Q8. What is metamorphosis? Give examples.

Answer: Metamorphosis is the transformation of the larva into an adult through drastic changes.For example the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly is called metamorphosis.

Q9. Differentiate between internal fertilization and external fertilization.

Answer:

Internal fertilisation:

a) It involves the fusion of the male and the female gamete inside the female body.
b) Chances of the survival of offspring are more. Therefore, a small number of eggs are produced.
c) Humans, cows, hens, etc., are various organisms showing internal fertilisation.

External fertilisation:

a) It involves the fusion of the male and the female gamete outside the female body.
b) Chances of the survival of the eggs are less. Therefore, a large number of eggs are produced.
c) Fish, frog, starfish, etc., are the organisms showing external fertilisation.
